Antonio Conte has admitted that Danny Drinkwater still has some work to do to make sure that he is fully fit for Chelsea as quickly as possible.
The England midfielder made his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt on Wednesday night when he started the Blues’ 2-1 victory over Everton in the League Cup at Stamford Bridge.

Drinkwater was made to wait for his Chelsea debut after having struggled with injury since his move from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge on deadline day back in August.

The midfielder will now be hoping to show Conte that he is worthy of a regular spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks and months.

However, the Italian manager accepts that it’s going to take Drinkwater some time to be filly fit for the Blues after his long injury lay-off.

Speaking at a news conference at Cobham on Friday afternoon, Conte said: “Danny Drinkwater played against Everton but for sure he needs to find the right physical condition.”

Chelsea are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.

The west London side head into the game looking to make it back to back victories in the top flight after their 4-2 win over Watford last weekend.
