Antonio Conte praised the “amazing” impact of Davide Zappacosta, Willian and Michy Batshuayi after the three substitutes helped to inspire Chelsea to a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Watford on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues found themselves 2-1 down to the Hornets in the second half at Stamford Bridge but the west London side managed to battle back and claim all three points.
Conte brought on Zappacosta, Willan and Batshuayi in the second half at Stamford Bridge, as the Blues battled back.
Batshuayi scored twice as the Blues overturned the deficit and claimed all three points against the Hornets.
And Conte was absolutely thrilled by the impact that his substitutes had after they helped to inspire Chelsea to victory.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday, Conte said: “Amazing. Substitutions sometimes work, sometimes don’t work.
“It is important for the coach to understand the right moment if there is a situation to improve and to change.
“I am pleased for Michy because he scored two goals but his impact during the game was amazing. It was the same for Willian and Zappacosta.
“Honestly I was pleased for the performance of the players I changed.
“Sometimes when you play three games in a row and play the same players, you have to make important decisions. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. I was lucky.”
Conte’s Chelsea side remain nine points behind leaders Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
The west London side return to Premier League action next weekend with a trip to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
Chelsea won the Premier League title in Conte’s first campaign in charge last term but it looks as though they will face a struggle in defending their crown this time around.
