Indeed, Hazard is back playing like one of the world’s best, Alonso is turning out quality performances on the left, Kante is as industrious as ever, Jorginho is justifying his price tag, and, for the most part, the rest of the squad are ticking like clockwork.
Unfortunately for some, however, this new turn of form has highlighted and emphasised their ‘deadwood’ status in the squad; and, with a man who’s ruthless enough to chew cigarettes for 90 minutes on the sideline every game, there is no room for charity at this new-look Chelsea FC.
Here are two players we believe deserve to be shown the exit in January…
Olivier Giroud
It was a toss-up between Giroud and Morata, but the Frenchman gets the nod on this occasion. Olivier Giroud is a born goalscorer, there’s no doubt about that. However, if you look back at Sarri’s Napoli side it’s evident that the Italian opts for short, pacey, creative, and agile players in his forward positions. Look at the proliferation of Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, as an example, if not Eden Hazard this season.
Since Mr. Giroud evidently doesn’t meet these requirements, it would come as no surprise if both the club and player pursue a transfer in early 2019.
Cesc Fabregas
Despite being recently being awarded his second Guinness World Record for becoming the fastest player to reach 100 Premier League assists, Fabregas has found game time hard to come by under Maurizio Sarri, who opts for a middle three of Kante, Jorginho and Kovacic.
With other young players coming through the Chelsea ranks, like Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley, time seems to be running out for the Spanish artist who will surely be considering his options come January.
