Chelsea are in big trouble with FIFA: Transfer ban threat for the next four windows for doing this

Chelsea & Football Leaks
Bad news for Chelsea.

Roman Abramovich’s club are under the microscope after the latest round of revelations from Football Leaks.

According to accusations first revealed by French news outlet Mediapart, Chelsea could be hit with a mega transfer ban.

The issue relates to Chelsea signing underaged players against the rules laid out by FIFA.

Chelsea & underaged players
FIFA have rigid rules when it comes to signing minors, i.e. players under 18-years-old.

One way to sign such minors is if FIFA provide specific permission to clubs.

Such permission may be awarded if a player’s parents move from one country to another because of work.

Another reason for FIFA to give such permission is if a player is between 16 to 18 and they move within the European Union, provided the football education is deemed to be at the highest level.

Several clubs have memorably been punished by FIFA for flouting these rules. They have included Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

According to Mediapart, focus has now shifted onto Chelsea.

19 Chelsea transfers under review
According to Mediapart, Chelsea are now being investigated for 19 transfers.

14 of those cases are related to signing minors.

Chelsea & Bertrand Traore
Now 23 and playing for Lyon, could Bertrand Traore take down Chelsea?

According to the reports, Chelsea signed Traore when he was under 18-years-old. Chelsea paid £400,000 for Traore.

Get French Football News have translated the Mediapart article to report the following:

Sanctions have been recommended (against Chelsea), because, although officially speaking the transfer was registered in 2014, when the player had turned 18, an investigation by the Guardian indicated that he had been signed before turning into an adult, in September 2013.

Traoré attended Whitgift, a private school in London, between the ages of 16 and 18, as the school boasts on its website, from 2011 to 2013. The Arsenal website reports that he participated in an U18s match against the London club when he was only 16. FIFA have realised that Chelsea hid this information in bad faith, and the London club was forced to admit to having acquired an option on the player from his mother in April 2011, worth €177k, plus €15k to go to his Burkinabe club AJEB, chaired by… Traoré’s mother.

Banned for the next four transfer windows
Chelsea are now in a battle to clear their name.

According to Mediapart, Chelsea may be punished for trying to deceive FIFA with a transfer ban continuing for the next four transfer windows.

Chelsea could also be slapped with a fine
